Edward and Janie’s Career and Personal life

Edward Lodewijk Van Halen was a popular American musician. He was the guitarist and main songwriter of the rock band ‘Van Halen‘. He and his brother Alex co-founded the band in the year 1972. During Eddie’s music career, he made popular the two-handed tap, in which both hands are used to tap the guitar fretboard, giving his rock band a unique sound. Edward Van Halen occasionally played the musical instrument keyboard too. He also gave backing vocals for David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar.

Eddie Van Halen is widely known as one of the greatest guitarists ever. He has made a significant existence as a guitarist in the rock history. In the “The 250 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” list 2023, Rolling Stone named Eddie Van Halen as the 4th greatest guitarist. 

Edward suffered from several health issues since the 1990s. He died at the age of 65 in 2020 due to complications from throat cancer. 

After the divorce from Valerie Bertinelli in 2009; Eddie Van Halen and Janie Liszewski got married at his, Studio City estate. 

Janie Liszewski was born in 1970 in Pennsylvania, USA. She is an actress and stuntwoman. She is known for her work in From Dusk Till Dawn (1996), Bubble Boy (2001) and Mulholland Drive (2001). 

Janie Liszewski and Eddie Van Halen met each other for the first time in a work setting. In the year 2006, Janie was hired as Eddie’s public relations representative. That’s when their love story started. After a three-year-long relationship, both got happily married to each other in 2009.

Eddie Van Halen and his ex-wife Valerie Bertinelli.

Valerie Anne Bertinelli is an American actress and television personality. She is known for her role in the sitcom; “One Day at a Time”, 1975-1984. She also worked in the drama series Touched by an Angel (2001-2003), and the sitcom Hot in Cleveland, (2010-2015). Bertinelli has also hosted several programs for ‘Food Network’. 

Eddie Van Halen and Valerie Bertinelli got married in 1981. They had a son; Wolfgang, in the year 1991. 

They officially got separated in the year 2001 and later got divorced on December 20, 2007. In her autobiography, Valerie stated that the main reason for their divorce was Eddie’s cocaine addiction and smoking habit. Later on, she also got married to financial planner Tom Vitale. 

Even after the separation, Eddie and Valerie stayed as each other’s good friends. Both even attended each other’s weddings.

Eddie’s death was a heartbreak for all

Eddie Van Halen struggled with alcoholism and drug addiction throughout his life. He stated that eventually, he needed alcohol to function. In an interview in 2015, Eddie shared that he has been sober since the year 2008. 

On October 6, 2020, Van Halen died after having a stroke, surrounded by his beloved wife Janie, son Wolfgang, brother and co-founder of ‘Van Halen’ Alex, and his ex-wife Valerie Bertinelli. 

After the death of husband Eddie Van Halen, Janie Liszewski shared a sweet picture of both sitting at the seashore with an emotional caption. “Saying goodbye is the hardest thing I have ever had to do so instead I say so long, I will see you again soon in a place with no pain or sorrow. Please watch over Kody and I…”, she wrote.
